HTC defines itself with the lines it draws from smartphones to smartwear. But it hasn’t been filling in those lines with cash money for awhile. As the company continues to plot its course away from the rut that was the One M9, it decides to do so by adding zeal to the Desire series — once remarkable, recently less so.
Maybe the Desire 10 Pro and Desire 10 Lifestyle can shake things up.
You may surmise some of the traits on these two mid-rangers come out of the HTC 10, a phone that received critical acclaim, but has battled market tailwinds. Features like 24-bit audio playback plus, in the case of the Pro model, a fingerprint sensor and focus-assist laser have come down a price bracket. A compromise of sensation comes in the form of metallic contouring that helps enrich the otherwise bare matte polycarbonate in your choice of four colors: black, white, navy blue and baby blue — though the company has fancier names for them.

As far as the spec sheets go, though, we’ll say that it’s a pretty stark gradient between the Pro and the Lifestyle.

The most interesting and, perhaps, damning spec line here happens to be the chipset for the Desire 10 Lifestyle as HTC has opted for an old school Snapdragon 400 design, though with a less common 32-bit Cortex-A7 configuration setup — four cores clocked up to 1.6GHz. In the past, the 64-bit Cortex-A53 has been the workhorse of choice for many OEMs executing the 400. What leverage this OEM is trying to heave, we’d like to find out.
Other trade-offs between the two models include an instant selfie video trigger with the press of the Pro’s back-mounted fingerprint sensor and more powerful Dolby-enhanced BoomSound speakers on the Lifestyle.
HTC Desire 10 Pro
Sense UI on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow covers both phones up with Themes, gestures and motion launch features as well.
There’s a specific focus towards Europe with this new Desire 10 series, though it’s safe to say that both Pro and Lifestyle will generally be available outside of the US. Soft pricing details mark the Desire 10 Lifestyle below €300 while the Desire 10 Pro will simply cost more than the Lifestyle and below the HTC 10.
The Lifestyle hits retail at the end of the month while the Pro begins sales in November.
