Just as expected, the mid-range Honor 6X smartphone didn’t fly solo to the latest hardware launch event of Huawei’s sub-brand, taking similarly inexpensive wearables and tablets along for the ride.
While the Honor Watch S1 and Honor Pad 2 are arguably less exciting than a $150 or so Full HD 5.5-incher with dual rear cameras, they both have enough going for them to warrant your $103 and $148 and up spending respectively.
Only in China, that is, at least for the time being, with the circular smartwatch in particular looking like it could easily woo a global audience. This is no “princely” Huawei Watch, but incredibly vows to keep the lights on for up to six days on a single charge, courtesy of some sort of frugal, “soft-lit” screen, and energy-saving software tricks.
Speaking of, the Honor Watch S1 obviously doesn’t run full Android Wear, and like the Honor Band Z1, focuses on a robust set of activity tracking features, this time even including its own heart rate monitor. Plus, up to 50-meter water resistance, and all you need in terms of connected smartphone notifications at a measly 700 Yuan.
The CNY 1,000 and up Huawei Honor Pad 2, meanwhile, has very little in common with the non-Honor-branded MediaPad M3 8.4, settling for a 1,920 x 1,200 pix res 8-inch IPS display, octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor, 3GB RAM, 16/32GB storage options, 8 and 2MP cameras, 4,800 mAh battery, as well as Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Not too bad, nothing to write home about either, save for the $150-equivalent price tag.
