No Surface Pro 5? No problem, as Lenovo appears to be planning the release of a revised Miix-branded Surface Pro 4 “killer” just in time for the fast-approaching holiday season. And no, we’re not talking about the 510 detachable Windows 10 tablet unveiled at IFA a few months back with sixth-gen Intel Core i-series processors, a starting $600 price, and up to 8GB RAM.
The Lenovo Miix 720 looks like a future-proofed rival for an eventual early 2017 Microsoft Surface Pro 5, at least on paper, graduating to Intel’s seventh-gen Kaby Lake microarchitecture, bumping the 12-inch screen’s resolution all the way up to 2,880 x 1,920 pixels, and accommodating as much as 16GB RAM.
While we only have unofficial information to go on here, the 2-in-1 Windows 10 Home PC is practically confirmed and fully detailed to include other high-end features like integrated Intel HD 620 graphics, up to 1TB SSD storage, and 41WHr battery capacity good for around 8 hours of continuous use.
Similar in design to last year’s Miix 700, the 2016 Miix 510, but also the Surface Pro family, this will carry a convenient built-in kickstand, adjustable watchband hinges, magnetically connecting to a very familiar keyboard cover.
By itself, the Lenovo Miix 720 slate seemingly weighs 780 grams and measures 8.9mm thick, growing to 1.1kg and 14.6mm when attached to a productivity-enhancing dock. Speaking of, you get an Active Pen too, everything from USB 2.0 to 3.0 to 3.1 Type C and micro SD, as well as Dolby stereo speakers, a 5MP rear camera, and 1MP front snapper with Windows Hello support. No words on pricing yet.
